Shelbie was one of my past seniors and now she’s marrying Josh! We’ve never been to the Dragonfly retreat in Bothell, so it was exciting going someplace new :).  I love being surprised and discovering little gems I didn’t even know about.

When you go to a place called the Dragonfly Retreat, you expect to see dragonflies, right? Well, it didn’t disappoint! In the afternoon sun they came out, but I have to tell you, they were hard to get pictures of! They never wanted to land in a place I could get to, until a smaller one finally did! Joe was able to get this little guy :).

The venue has the coolest awning with custom metal work, so striking and I had to incorporate it anyway I could.  What better way than with Shelbie’s beautiful dress!

Shelbie was a calm bride and just took in the day as it came, one step at a time.

Dancing in the room, is always a must with your bridesmaids!  They all stayed together the night before since many traveled from Texas to be here (Shelbie went to college there).

Every wedding has it’s unique parts. Shelbie and Josh love to read, so for their vows they are exchanging books. Shelbie wrote her vows within the pages for Josh to read again in the future. Shelbie was to give Josh “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster and Josh would be giving Shelbie Jules Verne’s “Seven Novels.”

There was an array of colors in this wedding.  Her bouquet, the girl’s bouquets and the table decorations were all different colors.

Shelbie wore a small heart around her neck, her sister another and her mom the pendant the 2 hearts were taken from. An Etsy find :).  Shelbie also gave each of the girls a bracelet to wear during the wedding that was symbolic of the sorority that some of them shared, KKG – Kappa Kappa Gamma.

It was finally time for Shelbie to get her dress on.  This is such an exciting time for a bride.  Finally to have her dress on for more than a fitting.  It was THE time!  It’s good to just soak that in for a minute.

The first look, always one of the most special moments of the day!  Some couples want a very private moment and others are fine with letting their family and close friends watch.  Shelbie decided that she would share this moment and the girls helped her to her spot.  The anticipation in Josh’s face is perfect!

Sometimes the little ones just don’t want to be in pictures, so I grab any opportunity to get them interacting with the bride and groom.  This is one of those perfect moments.  Shelbie was getting a little tired on her feet and as soon as she got down low her little ring bearer was right there by her side.Wedding Seattle Tacoma Photographer Shelbie Josh_0033.jpg
Shelbie’s KKG sorority girls did a special pinning ceremony for her before the ceremony.  A song, some hugs, a few tears and Shelbie’s bouquet was ready with the love and keys of her “sisters.”Wedding Seattle Tacoma Photographer Shelbie Josh_0034.jpg

Emma and Lyle took 3 planes to get to their Washington wedding! They’re teachers in a remote village in Alaska on an island close to the Arctic Circle! I’ve seen some of the pictures Emma has posted and it’s a pretty amazing place. Here’s just a few images Google pulled up for me. I don’t know why this just fascinates me so, but it does.  People who are adventurous are so inspiring!  I’m sure Emma and Lyle didn’t expect to find love in their little island village, but they did! How awesome is that!

Taylor and Andy’s wedding was the first wedding in 2016. It kicks off a busy year with 22 weddings. I’ve always limited my weddings to 12 a year, but I decided to go for it this year to see what would happen and well, it’s going to be a busy year and I’m thankful for it! I’ve been looking forward to this wedding since 1 Taylor and Andy are two very awesome and fun people and 2 it was at the Georgetown Ballroom and I’ve never been there. As I’ve said before, my favorite place to take pictures is a place I’ve never been before 🙂 and it didn’t disappoint. The day couldn’t have been any better!

I love Taylor and Andy’s story and wanted to share it with you… these are the words of Taylor…

“Andy and I met in 2011 at a chance meeting down in Austin, TX. We had both graduated the year previously from separate university’s in Portland, Oregon. He had spent that next year traveling around South America while I had moved back to Seattle and was working my first job as a nurse in Tacoma. We both ended up planning trips to Austin for Halloween weekend to visit our old college roommates who just so happened to now be living together in Texas. We discovered a ton of mutual friends and realized we had just lived a few blocks away from each other in Portland! Such a small world!
We hit it off but hadn’t made any plans to see each other again. I realized after landing in Seattle that I had left my favorite shoes in Austin and when I turned my phone on, Andy had already messaged me promising that he would make sure to return them! About a month later he had managed to hitchhike his way back to Oregon to get his car and drive up for his first visit to Seattle with my beloved shoes in hand. He moved to Seattle 6 months later and purposed 3 years after that in Gasworks Park overlooking the city we fell in love in.”

Their story didn’t end there… they have traveled the world together, having one adventure after another and they plan on continuing that throughout their married life. Each table represented a different place they had visited together, along with a picture of them enjoying their time there – Vienna, Vail, Cinq Terre, Rome, Whitefish, Salzburg, Prague, Albany, Florence, and places around the United States. It was inspiring to witness their adventurous spirit!

I met up with Taylor and her girls at the Alexis Hotel in downtown Seattle. They were all in great spirits and the atmosphere was happy and loving!

I always try to document every detail of a wedding, including the smell, haha.

What a cool venue! The Georgetown Ballroom is full of color and interesting objects throughout with a great courtyard out back.

Taylor decided to get her dress on at the venue instead of the hotel.  Isn’t her dress beautiful?!

With each wedding there’s always fun and unique ideas and with this one they had a caricature artist instead of a photo booth! I LOVED it and look who was there! Helen and Pat.c :). Another one of our couples with an upcoming wedding 🙂 and just by chance they are going to have the same caricature artist at their wedding! Maybe Joe and I can make time to get one at theirs :)!

Amanda is my beautiful daughter and she’s one hard working girl, so for spring break we decided to take a girl’s trip to Las Vegas. I’m allergic to alcohol and she’s too young to drink or gamble. I know not the typical place to go, since it seems that’s what Vegas is all about. Believe it or not, there’s a lot more to do there than those things. Every hotel is special and there is endless shopping and walking. There are also beautiful parks within driving distance. Since I decided to rent a car for the week we hit a couple of the parks, one of them being Red Rock Canyon. We just couldn’t go to Nevada without planning a shoot too. We decided that the 70’s style would compliment the surroundings, so Amanda took much care in finding just the right outfits.

I love the Nevada terrain.  It’s so different than Washington, that’s for sure.  Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0011.jpg
As a special tribute to her Nani, Amanda decided to get a tattoo of her Nani’s signature.  She turned 90 this year and she is just one special lady to us all.  Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0009.jpg

I’ve always been fond of red rock.  We’ve been able to travel to many wonderful places including Grand Canyon, Canyonlands, and Arches, but it’s been a while. The other park we visited on this trip was the Valley of Fire and it had crazy red rock.  You have to go next time you visit Las Vegas.  It’s only an hour away.Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0012.jpg

Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0016.jpg
By this time in the shoot it was a little cold, but Amanda sucked it up and had fun with it anyways.  I can’t believe she will be off to college this Fall!  She’ll be studying Biology at the University of Washington in Seattle and will most likely go on to be a a Physician’s Assistant.  That plan may change, but that’s what she’s thinking right now.  She will already have her Associates Degree, so will be entering with a Junior status.  Remember, I told you she was hard working!Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0017.jpg
These is so authentic 70’s!  I actually had those same pants in the 70’s, as did many of my friends.  We called them Rainbow pants.  I can’t believe she found them!Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0018.jpg
Amanda is confident and definitely her own person.  She’s not easily influenced by others and when she makes her mind up, she’s full steam ahead.  When this was her decision I have to admit I was not crazy about the idea of a tattoo, but soon that changed and I enjoyed watching her get it and yes, I got an ornament to commemorate it on the tree :).  I posted it on my December tree post of course!Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0020.jpg
I hope you enjoyed our little 70’s inspired shoot.  You can see the 50’s shoot here and the 60’s here.  We have one more planned later this spring.Girl Senior Red Rock Nevada Styled Tacoma Photographer Amanda_0019.jpg

Jodi, Michael and 2 yr old Max met me downtown. The plan was to do the shoot rain or shine, well we got rain and that was totally ok with all of us :). We picked our location specifically with the rain in mind. It’s a popular place in Tacoma for photographers since it’s one of the rare places you can do sessions in the rain, especially for a family session.

This is the sweetest family! Really, so easy to be with and Max, can he be any cuter! With all sessions with a 2 year old… they are in charge of what we decide to do. Max did great and even though he was a little unsure of me at times, we still laughed and lot and had so much fun. The hour went by in what seemed minutes. That’s a good sign!

Katie is a Stadium High School senior who loves to dance and choreograph local musical productions.

She would like to attend a university and study forensics or nurse practitioner.  Her dream school is UW.  She not only loves dancing, but also music, reading, spending time by the water, being with friends and spending lots of time with family.

Someday Katie would love to go to Europe, maybe live in another state for a little bit (just for the experience) and also learn aerial silks.
